Warner Bros. is developing Rasputin for Leonardo DiCaprio, who lacks a gigantic beard but possesses an established capacity for crazy-eyes. The pitch comes from American Sniper screenwriter Jason Hall. Apparently DiCaprio appreciated “the complicated elements of a child who lost the better part of himself when his brother died, and was capable of kindness but also a ruthlessness.” Seems like it would be hard to turn down anything about a Russian mystic who was stabbed, shot, strangled, and only finally died when drowned.
