Looks like there’s a chance we won’t get a sequel to the 2023 Hollywood strike this summer. Crew union IATSE has reached a new tentative Basic Agreement with the studios and streamers in the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. According to a memo distributed to IATSE members on Tuesday night, the provisional three-year contract includes an update to the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health Plans, triple hourly wages when workdays exceed 15 elapsed hours, and language that ensures “no employee is required to provide AI prompts in any manner that would result in the displacement of any covered employee.” The tentative deal, which covers the mainly Los Angeles-based 13 West Coast locals, must still be ratified by union members in a vote. IATSE and AMPTP said in a joint statement that a more detailed summary will be available to members and signatories in the next two to three days, while a Memorandum of Agreement is expected in around two weeks. Meanwhile, bargaining is still underway for a new Area Standards Agreement, which covers other IATSE locals across the country.
