Lifetime is forging ahead with its Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, unveiling a first glimpse of Alexandra Shipp in the title role. This is coming after considerable pushback from the late singer’s relatives, who wanted a big studio movie treatment in the style of What’s Love Got to Do With It? and its star Zendaya Coleman dropping out because she didn’t feel “morally okay” doing the role without the family’s blessing. Watch the clip below to see Shipp dancing in a crop top and baggy pants. But really, who can play Aaliyah? She’s one in a million. The movie drops November 15.
