CBS Sunday Morning anchor of 22 years Charles Osgood passed the morning-show torch to his replacement Jane Pauley this morning, making her only the third anchor in the show’s history since its 1979 premiere. Celebrated journalist, former Today and Dateline host, and Sunday Morning contributor since 2014, Pauley’s first broadcast as anchor will be on October 9. Osgood announced his imminent retirement last month, and the show sent him out in style this morning, honoring his life and work with the hashtag #CelebrateCharlie. The 83-year-old journalist will continue to contribute to the show periodically, as well as host his CBS radio show The Osgood File. After Pauley informed him that his bow tie will be sent to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, Osgood played himself out like the class act he is.
