Bob Dylan Welded a Massive Iron Statue for a Casino
Eric Clapton has his fly-fishing, and Bob Dylan has his metal-working. (Prolific rockers, they’re just like us with their hobbies!) Rolling Stone reports that Dylan’s latest project isn’t a new LP or collaboration, but rather an immense 26-by-15-foot iron archway statue, titled “Portal,” that’s set to be part of the permanent collection at Maryland’s MGM’s National Harbor Casino when it opens later this year. Despite the fact that Dylan has been working with metal for over 30 years, his work — which, in an unusual industrial twist, is often comprised of objects such as toys, farm equipment, and firearms — wasn’t publicly displayed until 2013 at the Halcyon Gallery in London. “Gates appeal to me because of the negative space they allow,” Dylan said in a statement. “They can be closed, but at the same time they allow the seasons and breezes to enter and flow. They can shut you out or shut you in. And in some ways, there is no difference.” Terry Benedict has never been more jealous.
