I’ve been reading Lawrence Block’s New York–set Matthew Scudder detective novels for almost three decades and hoping that some filmmaker would finally nail their distinctive, highly influential vibe, in which the PI hero meets sadism with grim stoicism but goes all-out to get the bad guys anyway: If it’s in his control to do something, he will — he must — act. Ever since he released three songs back in late January, A$AP Rocky fans have been waiting for the rapper to drop his much-anticipated third studio album, reportedly titled Testing. A long, slow burn and a Tonight Show performance later, A$AP Rocky can happily confirm that Testing is real, it’s complete, and you will have to wait until he releases it, but definitely not longer than that.
“ALBUM DONE,” Rocky tweeted on Sunday night, along with the album’s cover art.

Charlyne Yi. Amid many women coming forward with stories about sexual harassment and assault, actress and comedian Charlyne Yi shared her story on social media about a man in show business with a higher status who made her feel small. Earlier this week, she recounted her first interaction with David Cross, a more established comedian who is 20 years her senior, which took an offensive turn.
“I think about the first time I met David Cross ten years ago & he made fun of my pants (that were tattered because I was poor),” the House actress wrote on Twitter.
Early in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) offers her husband, Ed (Patrick Wilson), a warm drink and a “hon, are you feeling alright?” It’s a small moment as they prepare for a violent exorcism, so it’s easy to miss, but it’s an overwhelmingly tender beat. What does Doja Cat rap on “Vegas”? You ain’t nothin’ but a … To the ones who defended Songs About Jane while Adam Levine was going through all that — you’re in luck. Maroon 5 announced a Las Vegas residency, set for next year at Park MGM. That move makes them just the latest millennial-era act to take it to Vegas, after Usher and Miranda Lambert earlier this year.
Adam Sandler heads to Netflix next week with his first comedy special in over 20 years, and today the streaming network released the first full trailer. Here’s the rest of the venues where Sandler performed for the special:

There are very few main title themes worthy of being inducted into the Don’t You Dare Fast-Forward Through It canon, but HBO’s Succession has cemented its status in sonic TV history. Composed by Hollywood favorite Nicholas Britell — who’s also worked with Succession executive producer Adam McKay on Vice and The Big Short—the 90-second earworm is adored by classicists and chopped-and-screwed enthusiasts alike, and it’s easy to understand why: Britell juxtaposed a traditional piano with a looming hip-hop beat for the main sound, with distorted strings and electronics thrown in to further emphasize those contrasts.
Mood board vibes. Pinterest: great for weddings and for blocking sexy, passionate movie scenes. Get your head out of the gutter; we’re talking about Glen Powell’s latest film, Hit Man. If you loved the sensual chemistry between Powell and his co-star Adria Arjona, you have her to thank — it wasn’t in the original script of the movie. She told Cosmopolitan that she created a “full mood board of images” that she wanted to have them replicate during the intimate moments.
